Alternative Assignments: Audio, Video, and Design

Spring 2025 A&S Faculty Learning Community

In the Alternative Assignments Faculty Learning Community, we will explore three alternatives to traditional assignments. We will learn practical methods to make assignments in the forms of audio, video, and design, while also critically and creatively reflecting on these forms. Over the course of six workshops we will introduce the forms, explore each form in a hands-on demonstration, hear from faculty members who have successfully changed their assignments, and discuss the affordances and constraints of making these changes ourselves. No prior experience necessary.

The learning community consists of 6 in-person meetings during the Spring semester and will be limited to 12 participants.

Priority sign up by December 20; additional applications will be accepted as space allows Applicants will be notified of their acceptance shortly thereafter. Contact Jason Bennett (jcb2h@virginia.edu) for questions.
