Informed Consent Agreement: Online

Please read this consent agreement carefully before you decide to participate in the study.

The purpose of the study is to learn more about your perspectives on race and racism and to examine if they change after watching a film about these topics.

You will be asked to complete a survey prior to attending the “I’m Not Racist… Am I?” (INRAI) film screening.  We will ask you to complete the survey again 1-2 weeks following the film, and once more 2-3 months later.  The survey questions ask about topics related to race and racism.  All of the questions are multiple choice with no right or wrong answers and you can skip any question you are not comfortable answering.

  • Each survey should take about 10-15 minutes.  If you complete all three surveys the full study will take about 45 minutes.
  • There are no anticipated risks in this study. You will be permitted to skip any questions you are not comfortable answering.
  •  There are no direct benefits to you for participating in this research study.  The study may help us understand if perspectives about race and racism change after watching a film addressing these topics.
  • Confidentiality: The information you give in this study will be handled confidentially.  We will not ask for your name; however, we will request a valid email address in order to send you the follow-up survey.  We will assign your information a code number.  The list connecting your email address to this code will be kept in a secured file.  When the study is complete and the data are analyzed we will destroy this list.
  • Your participation in the study is completely voluntary
  • You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty. If you want to withdraw from the study, even after you submit your survey responses, please contact Joanna Williams (contact information below).  There is no penalty for withdrawing.
  • You will receive no payment for participating in the study.
