I'm considering showing a film that shows kind of the "ideal" journalistic scenario, where journalists actually have the resources to take on an important story that needs to be told. The idea is to help us consider what can be truly valuable about formal print journalism, so we can then think about those best practices in our own writing--both for the course and for any kinds of "citizen journalism" we participate in beyond the course.

Spotlight is one of the best such recent films, based on a true story and well-produced. Here's a link to a different trailer from the one I showed in class, which I think gives you a better sense of the thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwdCIpbTN5g

So:

Do you want to watch Spotlight as part of the course?
Would you prefer to watch together in class or on your own?
(In class--uses up class time, might be streaming issues but seems like it'll work / out of class--you'll have to pay for the rental; it seems to be free with ads for Amazon Prime members? or you can rent for $1.99.)
