Please read this study information sheet carefully before you decide to participate in the study.

Purpose of the research study: The purpose of the study is to gain an understanding of sleep quality amongst UVA freshmen, as well as what can potentially be done to improve that sleep quality.

What you will do in the study: In this survey, you will be answering a few questions, as well as watching and responding to a short video clip (headphones are recommended). The questions being used towards data collection focus on sleep quality/habits and your personal experience with ASMR. If there is ever a question that makes you feel uncomfortable, feel free to stop the survey at any time.

Time required: The study will require about 5-10 minutes of your time.

Risks: There are no anticipated risks in this study.

Benefits: There are no direct benefits to you for participating in this research study.  The study may help us understand if it is possible for ASMR to foster a greater quality of sleep in UVA freshmen.

Confidentiality: The information that you give in the study will be handled confidentially. Your name and other information that could be used to identify you will not be collected or linked to the data.

Voluntary participation: Your participation in the study is completely voluntary. Your decision to participate will have no effect on grades or school services.

Right to withdraw from the study: You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty.

How to withdraw from the study: To withdraw from the study prior to submission, simply exit the survey. However, because the data are not connected to your identity, you cannot withdraw after you submit your data.

Payment: You will receive no payment for participating in the study.

Using data beyond this study: The data you provide in this study will be retained in a secure manner by the researcher for 1 year and then destroyed.

On the typical night, what is your perceived sleep quality?
A little background for the next few questions...

What is ASMR?

ASMR (also known as autonomous sensory meridian response) is characterized by intense feelings of relaxation, euphoria, and for many, a sensation of "tingles" down the body. It is generally triggered by gentle movements and sounds, such as tapping and whispering.
Do you watch/listen to ASMR? If so, how often?
If you said "Yes" to the previous question, WHEN do you typically watch/listen to ASMR?
Of the following, which do you feel would improve your personal sleep quality on a given night? Select all that apply.
